Saudi Arabia marked August 2026 with a diverse series of international accomplishments, securing top-tier rankings, certifications, and awards across multiple sectors such as sustainability, healthcare, government, education, technology, and sports.
In global rankings and recognition, Saudi Arabia emerged among the top 10 nations worldwide for private investment in artificial intelligence, according to the World Bank. The Kingdom was named the Best Host Country for the first time in Formula E championship history and received the UN World Restoration Flagships award from the UN Environment Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization. Additionally, Saudi Arabia renewed its executive council presidency for the 2026–2028 term by consensus, earned 106 honors at the 2026 Middle East and North Africa Stevie Awards, and achieved formal recognition for being free of the equine disease dourine.
Government and quality-of-life initiatives saw notable progress. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development's project management office was named the best in the Middle East by the Project Management Institute. Furthermore, Riyadh was added to the Global Quality of Life Index, AlUla joined the UN Human Settlements Program's Global Quality of Life Initiative, and the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information received an award for exemplary geospatial systems.
In healthcare, the Medical Services of the Ministry of Interior joined the International Hospital Federation. King Salman Medical City's main hospital laboratory secured College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation, while King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre – Jeddah attained joint accreditation for multidisciplinary continuing education.
Within aviation and industry, the Second Airports Cluster attained Level 3 customer experience accreditation for 18 airports from Airports Council International. King Abdulaziz International Airport's Terminal 1 secured LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. In the industrial and hospitality spheres, SABIC earned an R&D World 100 award, while Red Sea International’s Desert Rock and Nujuma resorts obtained global certifications from the International Dark-Sky organization.
Saudi academic and athletic representatives excelled globally. At the International Standards Olympiad in South Korea, represented by 12 Saudi students, the national standards team won platinum, silver, and bronze medals. In other competitions, Saudi teams took home three awards at the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics in Uzbekistan, as well as one silver and two bronze medals at the International AI Olympiad in Kazakhstan.
Individually, Jana Al-Sabil secured a gold medal and the Best Student award at the International Junior Science Olympiad, while Abdulaziz Al-Shurait and Saleh Al-Harbi won silver and bronze medals at the International Physics and Chemistry Olympiads, respectively. In sports, the national athletics team took gold and bronze at the World Masters Athletics Championships, weightlifter Mohammed Al-Ajjan won two golds and a silver while setting new world and Asian records, and Saudi Team Falcons won the Rocket League title at the 2026 Esports World Cup.
