The Arab League Council convened its 166th regular ministerial session in Cairo on Monday, with Kuwait in attendance. Led by Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, the Deputy Foreign Minister, the Kuwaiti delegation joined discussions focused on regional updates and pressing Arab concerns. Under the chairmanship of Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohammad Nefthi, who assumed the role from Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Fawzia Zainal, the session serves as a forum to review various critical dossiers.
Key political and security issues on the agenda include regional sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security, alongside counterterrorism initiatives. The ministers are addressing Iranian actions affecting several Arab nations, as well as ongoing crises in Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, and the Comoros. Additionally, the council is exploring collaborative opportunities in economic, social, security, and developmental sectors.
During the session, foreign ministers are expected to formally approve a series of draft resolutions and recommendations. The meeting will also feature an address by Christian Saunders, the Acting Commissioner-General of UNRWA, who is set to discuss the severe financial deficits and operational obstacles confronting the agency within the occupied Palestinian territories.
