Kuwait’s Ambassador to Austria, Fawaz Bouresli, has presented his credentials as the State of Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
The credentials were presented during a ceremony at the IAEA’s headquarters, according to a KUNA report carried by Kuwait Times.
Bouresli said Kuwait remains committed to supporting the work of the IAEA and international cooperation in areas connected to the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
He also stressed Kuwait’s interest in benefiting from the agency’s programmes and technical initiatives. These programmes form part of the IAEA’s wider role in helping member states use nuclear science and technology in peaceful fields while maintaining international safety and safeguards frameworks.
The meeting also covered cooperation between Kuwait and the IAEA and ways to strengthen coordination on matters that fall within the agency’s mandate.
Kuwait’s permanent representation in Vienna is important because the Austrian capital hosts several major international organisations, including the IAEA. The permanent representative serves as the country’s diplomatic channel for agency meetings, technical cooperation discussions and international policy coordination.
Bouresli’s accreditation gives Kuwait a formal representative at a time when nuclear safety, safeguards, technical cooperation and regional energy issues remain prominent on the international agenda.
The IAEA works with member states across areas including nuclear safety and security, safeguards, medicine, food and agriculture, water management and other peaceful applications of nuclear technology. Kuwait’s statement specifically emphasised both support for the agency’s work and the country’s interest in its technical programmes.
The immediate significance of the appointment is diplomatic rather than a change in Kuwait’s nuclear policy. It formalises Bouresli’s role at the agency and provides the basis for continued participation in IAEA meetings and cooperation programmes.
