Kuwaiti charitable organisations are carrying out separate humanitarian projects in Gaza, Türkiye and Yemen, combining emergency water deliveries, medical missions and daily food assistance. The initiatives were described by officials from the organisations in statements carried by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and republished by Kuwait Times on September 19 and 20.
In Gaza, the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has launched a two-month project called “Water for All” for displaced and affected families living in shelters. IICO Director General Bader Al-Sumait said the programme is intended to provide nearly 5 million litres of drinking water to more than 115,000 people at a cost of more than KD 59,000. According to the account, water is being transported from approved desalination plants to shelters by tanker.
Al-Sumait said the project responds to shortages caused by damaged water infrastructure and the loss of safe water sources. The wider context is independently documented by humanitarian organisations: the International Committee of the Red Cross said in June that damaged distribution networks and limited water supply have left many people in Gaza dependent on water trucks and rehabilitated desalination facilities. That background supports the urgency of water access, but Gulf Pulse has not independently verified the beneficiary count, project cost or delivery volume announced by IICO.
The IICO director also said the organisation had allocated more than $23 million since October 7, 2023 to programmes in Gaza, with 143 projects completed and 26 continuing. He said those interventions had reached more than 8.4 million beneficiary instances across food, water, shelter, health, education and development assistance. Those figures are the organisation’s own reported totals and should not be read as a count of unique individuals.
In Türkiye, the Al-Safa Charitable Humanitarian Society said a Kuwaiti medical delegation completed two weeks of medical and relief work from September 1 to 14. Chairman Mohammad Al-Shaya told KUNA that the team performed nearly 300 operations, including general surgery, urology, ear, nose and throat procedures and paediatric surgery, alongside examinations and consultations. He said the delegation was organised in two groups and carried out 29 operations on one day.
The Türkiye mission also distributed food baskets, clothing, school bags and educational supplies, according to Al-Shaya. The programme included livelihood support such as sewing machines and tuk-tuks for some families, widows and orphans. Gulf Pulse is treating the surgical totals and distribution figures as attributed claims from the charity because no independently published hospital-level case list was available in the source material reviewed.
In Yemen, the Kuwaiti Society for Cultural Communication opened the “Kuwait Charity Bakery” in Hadramout governorate. Society director Abdullah Al-Shehab said the 281-square-metre facility can produce 10,000 loaves a day for poor and low-income families. He said Kuwaiti donors financed the project, while the society supervised implementation in cooperation with local authorities, including construction, equipment and installation before operations began.
Together, the three projects show different forms of Kuwaiti humanitarian activity: immediate drinking-water delivery in Gaza, specialised medical care and household support in Türkiye, and recurring food production in Yemen. The projects are separate operations run by different organisations; Gulf Pulse has not combined their beneficiary numbers into a single total. Their reported outputs remain subject to the figures supplied by the charities and carried by KUNA.
