Saudi Arabia has issued a strong condemnation following recent attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia on civilian and economic facilities in the Kingdom's southern areas, resulting in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the attacks targeted Najran, Jazan, Khamis Mushait, and Abha, while also condemning ongoing Houthi assaults on merchant ships in the Red Sea that disrupt international maritime freedom. The ministry stated that these hostile actions demonstrate a persistent rejection of peace initiatives and jeopardize the stability of Yemen and the wider Arab and Islamic regions.
In response to these threats, the Kingdom declared its legitimate right under international law to implement all necessary actions to guard its sovereignty, secure its national assets, and protect its citizens and residents. The statement emphasized that Saudi Arabia will not tolerate any aggression directed at its territory or infrastructure.
In a parallel announcement, Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, the spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, classified the continuing Houthi strikes as a dangerous escalation. He stated that these attacks openly violate Saudi sovereignty and pose a direct hazard to civilian safety. Al-Maliki announced that the Coalition's Joint Forces Command will deploy all essential operational actions to deter the militia, confront its hostile activities, target the sources of threat, and neutralize potential dangers.
Saudi Arabia has warned of the repercussions of these ongoing strikes on civilians and infrastructure, demanding an immediate cessation of all escalatory actions and maritime security threats. Furthermore, Riyadh appealed to the international community to uphold its duties by implementing UN Security Council resolutions, specifically Resolution 2216 (2015) and Resolution 2722 (2024).
