Ajman Municipality and Planning Department has received four honours at the 2026 Middle East & North Africa Stevie Awards, recognising projects in government innovation, sustainability, the circular economy, smart-city development and digital public services.
According to the Emirates News Agency, the department was recognised in categories covering Innovative Management in Government for organisations with 100 or more employees, innovative circular-economy practices, and urban sustainability and smart-city transformation.
A fourth award was presented for the department’s “Smart Maps in Investment” project. The initiative uses digital technologies and geospatial data to make investment opportunities easier to identify and to improve access to government information and services.
Dr. Eng. Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector, received the awards on behalf of the department. He said the results reflected an institutional approach that links data, knowledge and innovation with measurable outcomes.
The municipality said it intends to deepen the use of scientific research in policymaking, expand circular-economy practices and smart environmental systems, and make greater use of data and artificial intelligence in decision-making.
The awards also highlighted a wider environmental and public-health programme. WAM reported that Ajman Municipality has developed more than 30 strategic projects in those areas, including initiatives that contributed to the reuse of treated wastewater and the expansion of green spaces.
The department said treated wastewater reuse has reached 100%, while green areas have expanded by around 2.3 million square metres. Those figures are presented by the municipality as indicators of how environmental policy is being tied to urban planning and service delivery.
The Smart Maps in Investment project adds an economic-development dimension to the municipality’s digital work. By combining geospatial information with investment data, the platform is intended to help businesses and investors understand available opportunities while reducing friction in government service access.
Awards do not by themselves establish the long-term performance of a public programme, but they can provide an external benchmark for projects that are already producing measurable operational results. The more important test will be whether Ajman continues to demonstrate gains in service efficiency, environmental performance and investment access.
The municipality’s next phase will therefore be watched through practical indicators: the quality of digital services, progress on sustainability targets, adoption of artificial intelligence in decision-making and the extent to which smart-city tools improve outcomes for residents and businesses.
