The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued red alerts as severe thunderstorms, hail, and flash floods are expected to impact several regions across Saudi Arabia through Friday. The NCM predicts that moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will persist across sections of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah until September 4, with precipitation forecast to intensify on Wednesday in portions of Jazan and Asir.
In Jazan, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated to affect areas such as Al-Rayth, Harub, Al-Dayer, Al-Haydabi, Fayfa, Al-Aridah, Al-Harith, Al-Tuwal, Al-Darb, Baysh, Sabya, Dhamad, Abu Arish, Ahad Al-Masarihah, Samtah, and Farasan. Simultaneously, the Civil Defense has mapped the Asir region under a red alert, with similar rainfall projected for Abha, Khamis Mushait, Ahad Rufaidah, Sarat Ubaidah, Al-Harjah, Dhahran Al-Janub, Al-Namas, Al-Farshah, Tanomah, Rijal Almaa, Bariq, Mahayil Asir, Al-Majardah, and Balqarn.
In Al-Baha, moderate to heavy rain will affect Qilwah, Bani Hasan, Al-Qura, Al-Makhwah, Al-Hajrah, Ghamid Al-Zinad, Al-Baha, Baljurashi, Al-Mandaq, and Al-Aqiq. Makkah's Maysan, Adham, and Al-Ardiyat areas are also expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall, while Taif is slated for moderate rain. Meanwhile, the Najran Region, including Najran, Badr Al-Janub, Hubuna, and Thar, will receive light to moderate rain.
The NCM categorizes rainfall intensity with specific metrics: light rain consists of 1–4 mm per hour with wind gusts up to 50 km/h; moderate rain is 5–9 mm per hour, bringing potential hail, flash floods, coastal waves, and winds up to 60 km/h; and heavy rain reaches 10–50 mm per hour or more, carrying risks of funnel-shaped tornadoes, waterspouts, and winds exceeding 60 km/h. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates via the NCM's Early Warning page, the Anwaa app, and official social media platforms.
