The AJP Tour Asia Continental Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2026 - GI officially commenced at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, gathering over 2,000 male and female competitors representing 90 nations. Sponsored by EDGE Group and organised by Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP), the three-day tournament is scheduled to run until 6th September, accommodating various divisions including amateur, masters, junior, youth, and professional classes.
At the end of the opening day, which focused on the Masters category, the UAE emerged at the top of the national standings with a score of 80,720 points. Brazil secured the second position with 55,800 points, while Colombia held third place with 36,100 points. Among competing academies, UAE-based entities dominated the rankings. Commando Group claimed the lead with 79,800 points, followed by M.O.D UAE in second place with 36,120 points, and Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club in third with 14,900 points. Individually, Brazilian competitor Bruno Borges, representing the Abu Dhabi Police Team, secured a gold medal in his division during the opening day's matches.
Tareq Al Bahri, the General Manager of AJP, noted that the presence of competitors from 90 countries highlights the significant status of Abu Dhabi within the international jiu-jitsu community and shows the rising global trust in AJP-organized events. He explained that this continental tournament unites diverse jiu-jitsu styles, offering a platform for competitors to test their skills and elevate their athletic performance.
Reflecting on his victory, Borges stated that earning gold in Abu Dhabi is highly meaningful due to the demanding standard of competition and the presence of highly experienced international athletes at AJP tournaments. He also praised the city for offering an outstanding environment for the sport through its high-quality event coordination and athlete support. The championship is set to continue through the weekend before wrapping up on 6th September.
